Irish Music Sessions  Around Leicestershire

This page is my personal opinion of the sessions "warts and all". I have personally attended all of these sessions on  occasions and have enjoyed them all but I have tried to give an accurate feel of the session for the benefit of any person(s) who may be contemplating a visit for the first time. You may find you do not agree with my views so why not give it a try and let me know.

Monday:-        Quigleys Bar, Rugby, Albert Street. Acoustic open session. Not quite in Leicestershire but fairly easy to get to. A mix of fairly fast tunes, some Irish, with the occasional song. Friendly atmosphere.

Wednesday       The Talbot, Thurcaston  Rd, Leicester, Tel. 0116 2662280  Every Wednesday Around 9:30 PM. Open session acoustic tunes and songs. Friendly session, mainly tune playing with occasional songs.

Molly O'Grady's, Hotel St, S Market Place, Leicester, Tel. 0116 2518992 Mainly singers with guitars, Irish pub songs + rock /pop. Occasional tunes. Musicians get free drinks

Friday:-   The Queens Head, New Bond St, Hinckley,:Tel. 01455 612 824.   Every Friday starts around 8:30 p.m. with Traditional Irish tunes played at rather a rushed pace and at about 9:30 - 10 P.M. changes to an Open Mic. singing session. Usually finishes off with country and western. Would probably not appeal to the serious Irish Trad. Musician.

Occasional Sundays : - The Swan In The Rushes, 21 The Rushes, Loughborough, Tel. 01509 217014. Approximately once every month on various dates arranged on a ad hoc basis. Usually taking place in the public bar from at 2:30pm on the Sunday afternoon until about 6;30ish in the evening. An acoustic Irish Trad. Session  with occasional songs has some very good players of all ages from Notts. and Leics. and beyond. The Swan in the Rushes is a Real Ale House and serves some excellent beers at very reasonable prices. It is also the home of The Swan Folk Club.   further details : - patrickandanne0@lycos.com
