Of the two of us, I'm the bigger Dronfield fan. I'm responsible for most of the words in Locust Farm.net. What can I say? I've never been involved in building a website before. I had to find an accomplice who knew how to do it, chloroform him and drag him back to my flat. He didn't seem all that promising at the time, but I think he's worked out all right in the end.
| Locust Farm.net was built on a small, inexpensive patch of waste ground fronting onto a narrow street leading off a dusty, poorly maintained branch of the Information Superhighway. (Remember that concept? We can hardly forget it, seeing as our site overlooks a disregarded stretch of it. If you've ever been down the Mile End Road at 6 o'clock on a Sunday morning you'll have a fair idea of what it looks like.)

If you have 3D Peek installed on your computer, you'll be able to look beyond the bounds of your browser and see LocustFarm.net's surroundings for yourself. (If you don't have this ultra-valuable piece of software - part of AtLast RealSys - you're missing out big-time.) Most of the area is made up of empty structures which used to house now-defunct e-businesses, most of which were wiped out in the big e-bubble burst of 2000 passim. Just across the street is a crumbling building bearing a crooked sign advertising zucchinis-online.com. The vacant plot on which we built Locust Farm.net used to be occupied by a firm selling galvanised picnic accessories, which went so spectacularly bankrupt the building actually exploded. Most of the people still operating in this area of the Web are either cyberpunk types squatting illegally or others, like us, who simply can't afford to go somewhere more fashionable. We built Locust Farm.net (that is I, Skite, built it) using an Apple iMac with lightweight Freeway machinery kindly donated by SoftPress. It's designed to look best in OmniWeb, but we're not fascistic about it. If you're using Explorer or Netscape, you're still welcome. We wouldn't ban you from our building just because we don't like the look of your hair shirt.

I began life as a genetically modified hermit crab. Since becoming involved in Locust Farm.net, I've developed a fondness for JD's books and chloroform. I've had the honour of a character in the new novel being named after me, tho I'm not sure it's exactly the kind of character I'd want to be associated with judging by the pages I've seen. This is the 3rd website I've designed (the other 2 came crashing down soon after startup, due to incomprehensible reasons and lawyers).
