                                                buildings to which Fulke GREVILLE and Philip SIDNEY went.....
                                                ..... In a few years more the (Shrewsbury) school will be celebrating its 400th anniversay,
                                                and it has a record of which any school may well be proud.   The model rules drawn up by
                                                Thomas Ashton in 1578 are still shown in manuscript in the school library with the register
                                                of the pupils in which two famous names appear together, Philip Sidney and Fulke Greville.
                                                when the time came for one of these friend to die (Philip Sidney) the other wrote of him two lines
                                                of poetry:
                                                              Knowledge his light hath lost, Valour hath slain her knight,
                                                              Sidney is dead, dead is my friend, dead is the world's delight;

                                                and in course of time, when Fulke Greville died, these words, written by himself, were his
                                                epitaph: Servant to Queen Elizabeth, Counsellor to King James and Friend to Philip Sidney.
