MANISTY From Reaney & Wilson's Dictionary of English Surnames: Manesty in Borrowdale, Cumberland
is Manistie/Maynister in 1564. Whether the Yorkshire surnames derive thence is not certain but
Manesty is a normal development of Mannolfstygh (1315-1316 Wakefield, Yorkshire)  and Cumberland
surnames are not uncommon in Yorkshire. (Also) from Manningtree, on the Essex side of the Stour,
usually Manitre, it occurs as Manystre 1291 and 1343 and this appears to have been the local
               pronunciation which became Manister/Manisty.
20: Gresford Church inscriptions on Grave No. 245  Row 29
Elizabeth Manisty born Sept. 11, 1815 died July 22, 1882.
Mary Ellen Manisty born July 29 1846 died Dec 19, 1889.
Francis Manisty born July 18, 1810 died Jan 5, 1890.
'Until the day break and the shadows flee away - the Song of Solomon IV chapter 6 verse'.
Also Francis Steuart Manisty born Oct 30, 1843 died July 24, 1933.
Sarah Comberbach Manisty born April 7, 1852, died June 10, 1942.
Also their son George Steuart Manisty born Sep 16, 1882, died Feb 24, 1958 (cremated).
William Reginald Manisty born June 7 1891 died July 4 1965.
And of Francis Henry Manisty born Jan 17 1879 died Jan 6th 1969.

Grave List compiled ?c.1920.  Manisty: Row 12 Nos. 5 and 6; Row  34 No. 8 ..... (Dr Manisty).
(These Row Nos. are probably different to the Row Nos. used in 1992 for the compilation of
the publication referred to above.  To date the burials in this master index, from the church records,
cover 1740-1811. Transcriptions of two earlier burial registers have been published by Clwyd FHS. For later
church record burials, a visit to the local Record Office would be needed.)
