WELCOME TO JILL'S PAGES OF
NAMES
|
 |
PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THE NOTES AT
THE FOOT OF THIS PAGE WHICH WILL BE
UPDATED FROM TIME TO TIME
These pages of names are a master index to the first names, surnames, and variations in their spelling, from the
printed Parish Registers of Clwyd transcribed by volunteer members of
Clwyd Family History Society and printed by the Society. Extracts
from some National
Commercial Directories and reference books are also included.
To begin with I used the Parish Registers
containing the baptismal year
of
1812, which is the date to which they were first
transcribed. Subsequent
to this
many registers
have been added with
dates before, and now some transcribed beyond 1812. Some of the
registers also contain marriages and burials and these have all been
included in this master index.
You
will find that in this index there are some first names and
surnames which are not shown in the printed register index.
This is
because in some of the printed registers the first names of parents,
and first names/surnames of fathers of illegitimate children, and in
some cases witnesses to marriages, were not
included in the original indexes. Please contact me if you have a
problem
locating any of the names shown in my index in a particular register.
Experts may not
always agree with the 'umbrella' name
under which I have placed some of the names but I take
the view
that this is just an index, not an academic work, and it
is more
important to be able to find the parish register reference number(s)
for the name you
are interested in. References are cross-indexed where
necessary and here and there, for added interest, you will find place
names and/or the meaning of a name.
Regarding frequently occurring surnames such
as Jones, Edwards etc., all the reference numbers for these may not be
included at the moment as the names appear in almost every register
(+++ will
indicate
this) but examples giving
the variations in spelling of the name will be shown.
Please see notes below regarding obtaining copies of Wills from the
National Library of Wales (August 2009).
I'm sorry I do not undertake research, but would be
quite happy to add further detail from the parish registers
to any reference number/surname already included in this index.
If you feel that the contents of these pages have been of use to you
and wish to help (other than by purchasing copies of the
transcriptions), then a contribution by way of donation to Clwyd Family
History Society would be most
acceptable. Any cheques should be made payable to the Society,
and forwarded to the Treasurer: Mrs J M Harley, 13 Overdale
Avenue, Mynydd Isa, Mold, Flintshire CH7 6US with a note explaining the
reason for the donation.
It
is my sincere hope that the index will become a regularly used
tool to aid research in the Clwyd area, and my grateful
thanks must go to my 'technical
adviser', my son Duncan,
without
whom the pages may never have become airborne!

Notes
For ease of use it is probably best to print off the two 'key' pages
before going to the A-Z pages.
A Bibliography to sources other than Parish Registers may be found at
the end of Page Z.
'Hel Achau', the journal of the
Clwyd Family History Society, contains
a 'Look-up request form' , which may also be
down-loaded from their website (link to Clwyd FHS at the top of this
page). Overseas members (ie outside Europe)
are entitled to
10 free look-ups in
each year. Non-members may also use this service. Details
and charges are given
on the form.
For post-1837 research in the area, visit the North Wales BMD
website.

very easy to access by any form of transport (apart from air!),
plenty of parking, and a very friendly atmosphere.
WILLS at the National Library
of Wales. The Index of Welsh Wills proved at Chester 1545-1858 (copy
obtainable from
Clwyd FHS) is included within my master index pages. To
help you to negotiate the Library
website for Wills:
Google/ National Library of Wales/Search Archival Databases/ Scroll
down, and click on Probate / Wills /
click on More
..... (below Search History). In
the Search box which will appear enter the year and name
then click
Search. Scroll through the results to find the person
you are looking for and make a note
of the reference number below your
'result' e.g. C18564-3. E-mail your request(s) to
holi@llgc.org.uk
being sure to quote the reference
number(s). An application form will come back to you by em. (I
found
because I don't
have 'Word' I could not
print it off but I forwarded it by em to my son who was able to do that
for
me). The minimum charge is £5 but the total cost will vary
depending on how many documents you require
copying. Send off the form with your cheque - and wait with
excited anticipation!
