England A captain Mark Alleyne has received the Best Batsman Award after his sucessful tour of Bangladesh and New Zealand.

Alleyne led the team throughout their unbeaten tour, playing in every game.

He will receive £1,000 from Vodafone, the England team sponsor. Paul Franks received the Best Bowler Award and Chris Schofield the Best Fielder Award.

The awards were decided by tour manager Mike Gatting who said 'Mark did a very good job as captain'. He will hope to continue his form when he joins the full England team in South Africa ahead of the one-day series. It was announced that the team for the last Test will be chosen only from players already in South Africa.
