Mark Alleyne won the man of the match award for England as they were narrowly beaten by South Africa.
England batted first in the day-night contest and Alleyne came in with the score on 105-4. He was dropped on 0 and initially stuggled as he tried to regain some form.
He and Ealham eventually added 72 to turn the innings around. Off one Lance Klusener over Alleyne took 15 runs including a six. Alleyne was caught for 53, 10 balls from the end of the innings. His runs were made from 67 balls and helped England to a competitive total. It was his maiden fifty for England.
When bowling, Alleyne took three vital wickets for 55 to set up a nailbiting finish. His final wicket was that of Lance Klusener whom he bowled just when it looked like South Africa were gaining the upper hand. Alleyne also took the superb catch of Rhodes which secured him the man of the match award. South Africa needed eight runs of the last over which they acheived with two balls to go to deny England victory. |
