Gloucestershire's overseas player Ian Harvey took part in Australia's record-breaking win over South Africa in the first match of the Super Challenge 2000 series.
Harvey came in to bat with three balls of the innings to go in the first one-day international to be played indoors under cover. He got a single off his first and only ball giving the strike to Steve Waugh who hit five off the last two balls.
South Africa were set 296 to win after Australia had reached their highest ever total against South Africa. Neither of the opening bowlers made a breakthough but Harvey came on first change and had Hall caught behind. He later took the wickets of Kallis and Cullinan to rule out any chance of a South Africa win. He finished with figures of 3-41 from 10 overs as Australia won by 94 runs.
Harvey played in both Australia's warm-up matches against Queensland. He scored 11 and 9* and took 1-33 from 9 overs and 0-22 from 7. In the second match he got two run outs and a catch. Harvey will be back in England in time to play in the NatWest Trophy final after the remaining two matches in the three match series. |
