Former Gloucestershire player Andrew Symonds
looks set to make his full one day international debut for Australia.
The British born batsman played for
Gloucestershire in 1995 and 1996 before he became illegible as a non-overseas
player after playing for Australia 'A'.
Gloucestershire toyed with the idea of
challenging the rule in the courts in order to strengthen their batting ahead of
last season. The club decided that an attempt to bring Symonds back would damage
the game.
Symonds has been called up to the Australia
squad for the Wills International Cup after Tom Moody pulled out with a knee
injury. He will join the squad when his Sheffield Shield match for Queensland
finishes on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Jack Russell and England's
preparations for the tournament continued will a practice session under the
lights beneath which all the games will be played. It was hindered by rain but a
game of football was possible.
Enlgand have the first of their two warm-up
matches for the tournament tomorrow against Zimbabwe at the Bangladesh Sports
Education Institute ground 40km from Dhaka. |
