Gloucestershire have apointed former player and club secretary Tony Brown as a 'Chairman of Cricket'. He played for Gloucestershire from 1953 to 1967 and was captain for the last seven years of his career. When his was captain Gloucestershire won the Gillette cup in 1973 and is the only time the club has ever won the now NatWest Trophy. After retiring as a player he became cricket secretary at Gloucestershire and later Somerset. He then went to work at the TCCB. His appointment as 'Chairman of Cricket' comes just days after Phillip August, the 'Cricket Secretary', was made redundant on the basis that a chief executive, a director of coaching and a first team coach left little to do for a 'cricket secretary'. It is strange then, that there is no need for a 'cricket secretary' yet there is a need for a 'chairman of cricket'. | |||||||||
