ALLEYNE TO CAPTAIN ENGLAND IN AUSTRALIA

Gloucestershire captain Mark Alleyne will captain England in Australia this winter. Unfortunately though, he is not going on the ashes tour but he will captain an England Super Max 8's team. The three day world tournament is being held in Perth, Australia starting on 14 October. England are in a pool with India, South Africa and New Zealand who they each play once. The final will be contested between the winners of each pool (pool B - Australia, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka).

There are nine players in the squad which includes Chris Adams, Rony Irani and Andrew Flintoff. They will be managed and coached by Mike Gatting. If Alleyne plays well he will have a chance of being selected for the Carlton & United series at the end of the Ashes tour and the Sharjah Tournament in April.

Gloucestershire had three representatives in the four squads named at the ECB headquarters. Jack Russell is in the squad that will play in the ICC Wills International Cup from October 24 to November 1. The event is being held in Dhaka in Bangladesh and Adam Hollioake will captain England.

Matt Windows is part of a 15-man England A tour to Zimbabwe and South Africa. Michael Vaughan will captain the side which includes former Gloucestershire wicketkeeper Chris Read. Windows has hit 1000 runs this season in first-class cricket.
