Ganesh
![]() Ganesh: Meenashki temple, Tamil Nadu. |
A Hindu deity. He was the son
of Parvati and
Shiva. His birth is peculiar: Parvati
was suprised by Shiva whilst in the bath and annoyed at this
she constructed Ganesh out of the dirt left from
her bathing to be a door keeper. In response Shiva called forth an illusory temptress to distract Ganesh so that Shiva could cut off his head. Parvati was furious and demanded that Shiva give Ganesh's life back. Shiva, however could not find Ganesh's head and so replaced it with a elephant's head. |
