Intertextuality

Intertextuality is a common feature of Postmodern literature. Midnight's Children is a work that relies heavily upon intertexts - i.e. other texts and authors that it feeds off, or has parallels with / influences from. Some of these are so integral that it is useful to have at least a limited knowledge of them in order to appreciate Rushdie's work fully. I have listed some of them here:
