Writer Ahmed Salman Rushdie was born is Bombay, India,
on June the 19th, 1947. He is, perhaps unfortunately,
best known through the fatwa that was issued against him by
Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini upon the publication of
The Satanic Verses (1989).
Rushdie's work hinges on his many identities - an exiled Indian Muslim who writes in English, whose family left India for Pakistan and who now lives in England. He has won countless awards for literature and his books have been published in more than two-dozen languages. |
