WHAT IS HYPNOSIS? Hypnosis is a state of relaxation and concentration at one with a state of heightened awareness induced by suggestion. Whilst in hypnosis the 'critical faculty' is pushed to one side, it is still functioning and will cause the state to be ended if anything is going against your personal, moral or religious code, or if the person feels threatened by any such suggestion. It is unfortunate that most peoples first encounters of hypnosis is through watching stage hypnotists and various TV programmes, this can lead to peoples erroneous conceptions that they can be controlled or manipulated or even made to do something against their will. NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH At all times you remain totally in control and perfectly aware, you may experience different sensations whilst in hypnosis all very pleasant, you may feel relaxed and lethargic, light and tingly or even very heavy, you may experience a feeling of warmth spreading over you, or a drop in you body temperature. Hypnosis for therapeutic purposes is purely about you being and feeling perfectly relaxed making you more receptive to positive suggestions, and perfectly able to immediately abort any session if the need arose. Hypnosis dates back to the times of the Ancient Greeks and the Egyptians who were able to see then the beneficial effects of this non-addictive power for the good a natural manifestation of the human mind at work. |
