Influences

Music is a journey music is a traveller The rich and varied music of Brazil has inspired so many musicians all over the world; whatever your origins, Brazil touches the heart (o coracao) So this is our musical journey, born in Brazil, transformed in Britain before going out onto the World Wide Web!

Azhar writes : Joe, myself and Paul were touring Europe with our last band We met a small community of Brazilian musicians on the banks of Lake Geneva so naturally we spent our nights off jamming bossa nova's and batucada's (and basiado’s) with our new friends. Once Tom Jobim gets under your skin, you're hooked!
Afterwards we spent a lot of time in Brasil, immersing ourselves in all its diversities, playing and hanging out with friends and musicians -one day in luxury Paulista mansions the next in a Rio favela-it really changed our lives; we discovered Paulinho da Viola, Chico Buarque, Zeca Pagodinho among so many, and began to understand the meanings behind the lyrics.
I was always mesmerized by the vocals of Milton Nascimento, and his collaborations with Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock; Elis Regina can reduce you to tears, but I see us following more in the footsteps of Airto and Flora. They came from Brazil to the West, we're going from the West back to Brazil. One day! "Liberdade so posso esperar"

It's not so surprising people are digging the music of South America now, after all we've been influenced by the music of North America for the last 50 years. It's not unusual to see a Swedish jazz band but a British samba band is still a novelty!
Music is more global now, and I think the richness of Latin and Brazilian culture is finally making it's mark over here!”

OrionAnd just in case anyone should think this band is "SERIOUS" -the name is SIRIUS, SIRIUS B : i.e. one of 2 stars that makes up the dog star-the brightest star in the sky

.Steeped in mysticism, worshipped by the Ancient Egyptians and the Dogon tribe of West Africa, it's also the subject of many bizarre new age theories.

For us it seems an appropriate name for a band reaching beyond the boundaries of country, race or galaxy! Of course the B is for Brazil, Batucada, Bossa Nova, Birkenhead and Bath where we live.

We don't think the above picture is Sirius B but it's very starry.......you can see Sirius under the constellation of Orion in our winter and Brazil's summer....
