John's "Where are they now?" Page

I'm no good at keeping in touch with people. I'm only in contact with one person from my sixth-form and a couple from college.

Now with the infinite power of the Internet, I thought I'd be able to find some of the scruffy lads and nice girls I grew up with ... so I searched and searched, but even Friends Reunited hasn't heard of most of my lost friends.

So working on the principle, that eventually everybody types their name into a search engine to see what comes up, I've decided to list their names here and ask that they get in touch. If you're named below, or if you know or knew them, or even if you were at the same place at the same time, please get in touch.

Since first posting this list I've been moderately successful and I've made contact with a number of the people listed - their names appear in bold as an incentive to others.

Greenways County Primary School, Stockton Brook 1961-1967

I was good friends with Charles Charlesworth, Robert Lydiard, Gary Burton, and Kevin Smith, and (looking back) would have liked to have been better friends with Jane Broster and Louise Gordon. I also remember David Wingrove, Ewart Parry and Robert Moss.

Newcastle High School, Newcastle-under-Lyme 1967-1973

I have many happy memories from High School. It was the sort of school where everybody had nicknames, I was called "Elk", even by some of the teachers. Friends included - Stephen Griffiths, Edward Gray, David Griffiths, Peter Turner ...

Travelling home was fun too, on the PMT 137A bus route, which was a chance to mix with the girls from the Orme Girls School - Kaye Basnett, Janet Turner ...

Imperial College, London 1974-1977

Looking back, we did very little work when I was at college, unlike students today. I seemed to spend more time socialising with other Guildsmen than working. Among my many friends from Imperial are; Jerry Cummin, Ian Cairns, Ros Burborough, Julia Connolly, Dave Tranmer, Pete Lynch, Dave Lord, Janice Ford, Nigel McQuin ...

BP Research Centre, Sunbury-on-Thames 1977-1982

My first job after college was at Poplar House, part of British Petroleum's Research Centre at Sunbury-on-Thames. Here I was able to forget (most of) my engineering training, and concentrate on what I really enjoyed, computer programming. It was a great place to work, and I'm ashamed to have lost contact with; Peter Banks, John Horne, Peter Higgins, Derek Palmer, Stan Becker, Erwin Gorczinski, Bruce Jerrit, William Lupton, Richard Stock, Terry Fearn, Keith Narracott, Mike Knight, Wayne Colbert, Norman Lee ...

It would also be great to make contact with other friends from those days, particularly; Celia Pelly ...
