The last Will and Testament of Roger Elkin


1 In the name of God Amen. The fyrste daye of October in the yeare of
2 the raygne of our Soverygne ladie Elizabeth by the grace of God Queene
3 of Englande France & Irelande defender of the fayth etc xxxviii th A[nn]o	
4 D[omi]ni 1596. I Roger Elkin of Newsteyde sycke in bodie but of good & perfitt
5 mynde and remembrance thankes be geven to God doe constitute ordayne
6 and make this my last will & testament in manner and forme folowinge
7 Firste I geve and bequeath my soule into the hands of almyghtie God
8 my maker and redeamer my bodie to be buried in the p[ar]ishe church of Tren-
9 thame. Item I Acknowledge and conffesse that the one halfe of all my
10 goods cattayls and chattels moveable and unmoveable whatsoever to be
11 my sonne Roger Elkins (beddinge and napperie onelie excepted) Item I geve
12 and bequeath to my sonne Roger Elkin all my husbanderie wares all my
13 great {compes} and tornels one great arke one tubstne all tabells formes
14 and bedstookes one great coffer one great panne vj silver sponnes one
15 cubboarde one presse so that Margreet my wyffe shall have joyntlie
16 occupation of them during her naturall lyffe / Item I geve and bequeathe
17 to my sonnes John Thomas and Rychard Elkin and my daughter Marie
18 everie of them xiid for and in the name of there childs partes of goods
19 Item I geve & bequeath all the reste of my goods moveable and unmoveable
20 unbbequeathed unto Margreett my wyffe. Item my will is that Margreett
21 my sayd wyffe and Roger my sayd sonne shall occupie all the sayd goods Joyntlie
22 together and she shall paye and discharge all my debts whatsoever the be
23 moreover yf it fortune Margreet my sayd wyffe to dep[ar]te this mortall
24 lyffe beffore my debtes be payed my will is that Margreett my wiffe
25 shall geve unto my sonne Roger such p{ar]te of goods as shall be behynde
26 unpaid of parte of debts. I appoynt my true and lawfull
27 executores Margreett Elkin my wyffe Roger Elkin my sonne my overseers
28 John Clawnam and Richard Bolton.
