It is one of the remnants of the ancient Caledonian pine forest that once covered most of the Highlands of Scotland. You can easily spend several days exploring the woods and heritage of Abernethy, or merely relaxing by the shores of Loch Garten near to the Osprey hide.
We provide information and detailed maps of footpaths that lead directly into the forest and on to Loch Garten.
The Abernethy forest is host to various birds and other wild-life including Scottish crossbills, crested tits, roe deer and red squirrels, and from here it's on your door-step. Without even venturing beyond the grounds that surround the cottages at Dell of Abernethy, bird-watchers have sighted around 60 different species.
