It is not currently possible to buy a new Alpine but the company has a proud heritage of producing stunning sports cars. Pronounced "Al-peen", the marque was the creation of Jean Redele, son of a garage owner in Dieppe. Redele was one of the first to spot the 4CV's tremendous potential for racing and rallying. In Redele's skillful hands the 4CV was winning its class in events like the legendary Mille Miglia and Monte Carlo Rally and he named his creation 'Alpine' after competition successes in the Alps.
Redele soon realised that the combinaton of reliable Renault mechanical components and a lightweight sports body would make a very saleable car. Type 106, his first production model appeared in 1955 and became popular with enthusiasts. 1963 saw the introduction of the car that fulfilled his dream, The classic A110 Berlinette. With tremendous support from Renault throughout, Redele remained loyal to them and was rewarded when Redele's Alpine sports cars were distributed and warranted by Renault under the Renault-Alpine name.
The A310 was unveiled in 1971 with a 1.6 engine capable of 130MPH. The wide bodied cars had an aggressive stance. In 1976 it received the V6 engine from the Renault 30 which was tuned to pump out in excess of 200 BHP.
