MILL STREET TO LOVE LANE
A look at the history of Nantwich
town, featuring the story of the Nantwich Players
(Produced by Laurels Films for
Nantwich Players' Theatre Project)*
WITH £1.5million to find to finance a
new theatre project at their Love Lane premises, the premier amateur
dramatics society in the town has launched a range of fund-raising
events. Not least of them, in terms of effort from the producers, is
this 40-minute DVD which tells the story of the society from its
formation as Nantwich Play-Reading Circle in 1927.
Members have already signed
up to provide monthly donations for the next seven years to finance the
purchase of One Love Lane, a former funeral parlour next to their
theatre premises. This is now well hand with an interest-free loan from Nantwich
Of course, the society is not
expecting to be able to raise all the money themselves. A small group of
putting together a package to present to principle fund providers.
The project will provide
increased seating - up to 120 comfortable seats for patrons - as well as
better backstage facilities. It has a
community element to it, too, in that local people will be able to hire a large
open area for a range of activities.
The DVD starts with a
history of the South Cheshire market town before
concentrating on the Players from the day their theatre was converted
from a Friends' Meeting House.

brother-in-law of one of the Players' members and they have made the video
contribution to the project.
