Brownlands is perfectly situated as our day-studio venue for the River Ribble painting holiday with the fabulous panoramic views across the Ribble Valley. This is a wonderfully atmospheric country for the rural landscape painter. In this area there is a deafening tranquillity so much so that you can hear a brush drop.

Close to hand are Pendle Hill and tiny hamlets such as Downham, Great Mitton and the town of Clitheroe is just a few miles away. The three peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough herald the entrance to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The River Ribble embarks on its journey to the Irish Sea at Gayle Moor where it snakes its course between the fells and out into the beautiful and wide Ribble Valley to meander through nostalgic country estates and passed mellowed old textile mills and the ancestral landscapes of bygone creative eras. Each day we will visit easily accessible points along the river's journey.

About the presenter: John Hassall
I was born in Chester and now live in Holcombe Brook, Ramsbottom. I started my life of art in textile design and in 1969 moved on to self-employment as a picture painter with an open mind and approach to subject matter and mediums. I still keep the brief open and whatever I am asked to do the answer is always an enthusiastic "Yes". For the last 20 years I have provided tutorials and presented courses in painting and have also run ongoing classes in watercolour painting for all age groups. I am looking forward to meeting other painters as well as complete beginners plus making new friends on this exciting River Ribble painting holiday.

Where will you stay?

This barn conversion is set within the 250 acres of the owner's estate. The cottages have been awarded 5 stars grading by the English Tourism Council as being of exceptionally high standard. Each cottage sleeps 6 at £ 75 per person per week. All bed linen and towels are provided. (No smoking/no dogs)

There are also a wide choice of good hotel, guest house and touring caravan accommodation available within a few miles.
