How to paint a watercolour tree scene...

Create a watercolour of a tree scene, using 4 colours, 2 brushes and a little technique...

I call this the cauliflower stage. You should have a premixed colour of Lemon Yellow and Paynes Grey (darkish green) and just like a cauliflower shape, place this wash on the areas between the branches you have just painted, but don't loose the initial background wash (This is important).

 

 
You now gently blend these cauliflower shapes  back into the background by gently softening the edges with a clean brush and a little water if necessary. The effect should be that you loose the hard edges of most of the cauliflowers, and it gives a second dimension to your hedge.
