The ancient village of Kirkliston, some 11 miles from Edinburgh, came alive to the sound of the Pipes and Drums in September 1990. The revival of the village's piping tradition came about thanks to the sponsorship of the Drambuie Liqueur Co., whose manufacturing base has been in the village for over 25 years.
This is not the first time the streets of Kirkliston have echoed
to the sound of marching feet. It has witnessed the passage of
armies from King Edward en route to Bannockburn, King James IV
forces en route to Flodden Field and Bonnie Prince Charlie (to
whom we owe a particular debt!) who led his troops to Edinburgh
in the heady days of the 'forty five'.
The success of the Drambuie Kirkliston Pipe Band under the
command of Pipe Major Martin G Wilson has been nothing less than
spectacular. The band started competing in Grade 4 and gained
promotion to Grade 3 at the end of it's first season! In it's
first year in Grade 3, the Band achieved the Royal Scottish Pipe
Band Association Champion of Champions title. After further
promotion the Band are now competing in the highly competitive
Grade 2. With the addition of a new Leading Drummer, Alex
Dudgeon, and his corps, just before the start of the 1997 season,
we are confident of building towards even more success.
During it's short life, the Band has performed at many prestigous
venues and events from Kiev in the Ukrain to the Premier of the
Bonnie Prince Charlie movie - 'Chasing the Deer', to the Catalina
Classic Marlin Fishing Tournament on Santa Catalina Island, CA.
