How to Snakeboard

Its easy to learn. Once you have mastered the basics you have quick steering and total control in any direction. Snakeboarding is such a new way to move that it may appear to be difficult but, with a little instruction, most people get the motion in half an hour.

1. Place feet outward on each footplate

2. Turn toes in.

3. Turn toes out.

4. Start with your toes in and both your arms to one side of your body.

5. Turn your toes out and swing your arms in the direction you want to move.

6. Turn your toes in and swing your arms back to position 4.

7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 until you have achieved a fluid forward movement.

Remember...keep your knees slightly bent. Your upper body and toes must work together. Lean forward when your toes are together and back when your heels are together.

Pumping

This isn't releasing methane out of your arse, its getting you up and down the half pipe. Start at the bottom of the halfpipe. Stand on your board at one of the sides of the half pipe, then snakeboard as fast as you can to the other side. When you go up the half pipe you will start to come back down (doh!). On the curve push down and you should feel yourself accelerate. Do this on both sides of the half pipe. You will probably have to practice this a few times before you will notice a difference.

Now every time you go up one side of the half pipe, pump up by pushing yourself and your board up the half pipe. Thats all.

Dropping In

Get yourself on the coping (metal grindy bar) and look down. It's best if you drop off when all the rollerbladers (mainly puffs) are having their dinner as it's quieter and there are less things to worry about. Get down on your honkers (squat position) and then look down. You will see how much easier it looks. Now stand up and get ready. When ready lean forward. Don't lean back as you are destined to fall. Don't be scared though. As you lean forward take your leading foot off the coping. You should start to go down a little. Take your back foot off and you should be safely down. Don't expect to successfully drop in first time as I did, well come on it's not that hard. If you do fall you know you have the bottle to go and try it again.

Stalling

Drop in as above with a little speed using your pump technique to the other side of the pipe.* When coming up to the bar ride turning 90 onto the coping and then drop back in backwards by taking your leading foot off the bar followed by the back foot.

Backside stall( this is when u stall facing the way u would drop in):* When coming up to the bar focus on the bar then jump slightly spinning backward 90 onto the bar.

Rock 'n' Roll

For the first time learning the rock and roll should be done by starting from the bottom of the half pipe. The way I did it was to pump up the halfpipe tapping my axel on the coping a few times. Then pump faster slightly and tap your cross bar on the coping a few times. Now that you have gained more confidence all you have to do now is rock and roll. Just press your front foot down slightly so you can balance on your cross bar for a short while. Now put your back foot down and lift your front foot back over the coping and roll back down the half pipe, easy eh!

Nose /Tail Stall

Drop in off the pipe at a steady speed, as u approach the coping make your board horizontal. By bringing your back foot up and leaving your leading foot on the bar. Now u can either 180 back in or go back down switch stance.

U can tail stall by either 180 onto the bar or dropping in switch.

180 isnt your limit u could be 360 ing or 540 ing out or in to these stalls if u defy gravity. The skys limit!DOH!!!

Bar slide

All that a bar slide is, is a rock and roll moving along the coping.*see rock and roll*. What you do is get on top of the halfpipe and move to the far side, the right if you ride goofy or the left side if you ride regular. Drop in the halfpipe, as soon as you do this turn into the halfpipe and pump up the other side. When reaching the coping, don't lean back too much and don't lean forward too much either. Stand straight over your board. Lift your front foot up over the coping and balance on your bar rock and roll style. With a bit of practice you should be sliding on your bar. To get back down the half pipe put your back foot down and lift your front foot back over the coping and away back down the half pipe you go. OK!

Blunts

My favourite lip trick, the blunt. If you seen me at the nationals you would have seen why. By the way did anyone see me. I was wearing a bright green 'turtle shell' helmet. If you seen me let me know with an E mail.

When i was introduced to a halfpipe at the Newcastle qualifier *1996*, I saw afro queen M Dixon do 360 blunts which looked cool so i said thats the trick for me.

To do a blunt, drop in with enough speed to get you up the other side. Try not to lean back too much. Its best if your weight is on your back foot when going up the other side of the half pipe. As soon as you feel your wheels roll over the grindy b bar, slot the blunt in with a tiny shove. In the blunt you should'nt be leaning right over the blunt. If you do you might end up doing a wheelie on the platform and your board might slip away. Try to lean to your back foot slightly. This will create a better angle and your blunt should remain solid. Now you should be doing a decent blunt. To get off the blunt all you have to do is a little jump off back down the half pipe.

mmmmmmmm, easy, mmmmmmmmmm.

Nose Blunt

For this trick you can either drop in switch or drop in normal, rock and roll on the other side and then come back switch. When you get near the coping, lift your tail up and while keeping a close eye on the grindy bar and the nose, find the right and slot the nose in. You should be on your nose blunt now. Either drop back in with a little jump or 180 back in. If you 180 back in you shall land switch, allright..........cool!

Backside 180 nose blunt

This is probably the hardest blunt you may learn. Drop in the half pipe with reasonable speed. When you reach the other side of the halfpipe focus hard on your front kickplate. When you reach the grindy bar, lift your front foot up and lean into the backside 180. Then lift your back foot off the half pipe with a little jump, while in mid air and when it feels right, slot the nose blunt in. You may find, when you have slotted it in your body might still be turning, if so, jump off quick, if not, you are doing a well executed B/s 180 nose blunt, well done. Now just jump off the nose blunt and away you roll.

Airs

These are my favourite things as well. Get on top of the half pipe. If you are cool at snakeboarding do a rolling drop in, this will give you more speed and more air. If not, stand on top of the coping. Depending on how low the roof is in your indoor skatepark (our local skatepark roof is tiny believe me!) or how good you are, decide how high you want your air to be. If you want to go as big and as fat as possible do a rolling drop in and pump your hardest down and up the other side. You should be going quite a speed now. When reaching the grindy bar lift your front foot up and as your backfoot reaches the grindy bar make your back wheels kick off the coping. It's like pumping over the coping with your back foot. When in mid air, try and do a mute or an indy to make your air look bigger and to give you more stability in the air. When coming back down, if you are heading towards the platform, go into a rock and roll but get off the rock and roll straight away as you will be travelling faster than Isaac Newtons apple thats for sure (what are you going on about rosh?). If coming down from your air heading towards the ramp remember to bend your legs on impact
