2006-7 Season
31st May - Leon Sports College - League Cup Final Vs Pitstone and Ivinghoe 1-0 (0-0) - After the disappointment of the MK dons stadium game being washed out, Town played superbly to win the League Cup and take the League and Cup Double. In the first half the game was fairly even with Town having more chances but never really testing the Pitstone keeper. Pitstone did force 2 stunning saves from Tom Willshere and had a goal ruled out for off-side. In the second half Town seemed to take more of the game possession and increased their threats through the half. On 75 minutes Captain Adam Harwood played the ball through to Rob Begley who bravely threw himself past the keeper to head home. In scoring the goal, Rob had to come off with an injured shoulder. Town came close to enhancing the lead when keeper, post and keeper again, stopped a triple strike from Town. In the closing minutes, Willshere again had to tip over to keep Town's 14th clean sheet for the season. A tight game but Town were deserving winners. Pitstone and Town support was impressive and good natured. Everyone in the Town Youth squad has played their role in the squad all season and all 17 players deserved their winners' medal. Town will receive the league championship on Thursday 7th June at the league presentation evening.
24th May - Away League Vs Stony Stratford Town 0-1 (0-1) - Last game of the season and Buckingham had to draw or win to avoid a playoff for the league. A tough game that required every minute of the 90 to be played and competed for was decided by a 30th minute header by Rob Begley. An outstanding squad performance secured the lead and then held on to it for an hour. Town now finish as league winners by 4 points.
22nd May - Home League Vs
Cablemasters 2-1 (0-1) - In
their last home game of the season Town beat Cablemasters in a
thrilling match 2-1. Town lost Mario to a miss-timed
challenge and had to be replaced by Kieran McCabe after just 10
mins. In the aftershock, Cablemasters took the lead at 12 mins
and held it to the end of the half.
Once again a reorganisation at the half way point led to a completely
different team for the second half. In a superb period of attacking
play Sam Archer (just on as Sub) smacked home to draw level 10
mins after the restart.
Town seemed to regain the momentum and in an excellent passing
movement, Town swept down the right wing and crossed to be met
by Brad Flanagan to take the lead.
Town held on to the lead and now take an advantage to Stony Stratford
Town on Thursday where Stony need to win to force a league title
playoff.
20th May - Away League Vs Cablemasters 0-3 (0-1) - Town had to fight hard to hold onto a one goal advantage created by a Denny cross to Adam Holland in the 5th minute. Tom Willshere made 4 outstanding stops and Holland had another goal disallowed in the half. Town took the momentum into the second half but Cablemasters continued the pressure. Town were awarded a penalty around the hour mark and Simon Hayman slotted home. There were chances at both ends for the rest of the game but James Kennerley closed Buckingham's account at 3-0 with a neat chip of the Cablemasters keeper on the 89th minute.
8th May - Home League Vs Downs Barn 10-0 (6-0) - Town comfortably won out over Downs Barn but, in typical fighting spirit from the visitors, they kept battling to the end forcing late saves to protect the clean sheet. Spectators were pleased with the Buckingham performance and praised Downs Barn's determination. Goals from Hayman 3, Flanagan 2, Begley 2, Archer 1, Harwood 1, Kennerley 1.
6th May - Away League Vs Wootton Rangers 1-4 (1-1) - Town took the lead after 11 minutes when Brad Flanagan headed in Adam Harwood's free kick. Wootton struck back on the half-hour and took the draw into the half time break. Harwood regained the lead for Town 5 minutes after the restart with a long range lob of the Wootton keeper. Flanagan got his second of the game shortly after and then Town dominated the rest of the game. Substitute Sam Charleston wrapped it up in injury time as he connected with a flick on from Chris Chandler to take away the 4-1 win. Town stay second but close the gap on Stony Stratford Town.
29th April - Away League
Cup Vs Stony Stratford 1-4 (1-0) - Town went down to an early goal (4 mins) conceded
whilst the nerves were still settling. It was a long first half,
where Stony looked on for a second goal after a blistering counter
attack but Tom Willshere forced it wide. Town couldn't make the
best of their first half chances despite three times as much traffic
at the Stony goal.
Brad Flanagan made way for Nick Hunter at the break and a tactical
switch completely changed the game in Buckingham's favour.
5 mins into the half, Tom Bradley took a free kick, curling it
low past the wall and in on the right post past an unsighted keeper,
to draw level.
Keiran McCabe took a corner 3 minutes later and Begley headed
home to take the lead.
Adam Holland struck next on 67 minutes and Keiran McCabe sealed
the semi-final 4-1 with a howitzer from 25 metres.
Town now go to the final at the end of May to be played at the
National Hockey Stadium.
22nd April - Away League Vs Downs Barn 1-9 (0-4) - Town had a comfortable game at Downs Barn. Harwood opened the scoring after 18 minutes. Denny got his hatrick (23, 32, 41 mins) before being rested at the half time break. Kennerley headed in from a corner after 9 mins of the second. Further goals from Harwood, Hunter, Flanagan and Hastings sealed the game at 1-9. Complacency gave way at the back and Downs Barn got a consolation close to full time.
18th April - Away League Cup Vs MK Wanderers 2-2 (2-1) Pens 2-3 to Town- Unbelievably, Town went down to two quick goals early in the first half and had to battle hard through the reat of the 45 mins. Momentum shifted towards Town as the half closed and Harwood got something on a Flanagan corner to bang one in just before the end of the half. Youth team Captain, Adam Harwood, did an excellent job of leading his team in the second half applying more and more pressure to the Wanderers goal. MK Wanderers' forwards were a constant threat on the counter attack but a phenomenal performance from the defence once again kept the attacks at bay. With full time, and cup exit just minutes away, James Kennerley got a toe on a loose ball in the 6 yard box and poked it in off the post. The draw at full time meant penalties. The first three for both teams were saved. The next two went in leading to sudden death. Goalie Tom Willshere confidently scored town's 6th penalty take and then saved the Wanderers' attempt to seal the semi final spot Vs Stony Stratford.
15th April - Home League Vs Stony Stratford 1-2 (1-1) - Stony Stratford caught Town napping in the 2nd minute with an innocuous ball breaking in the box to be slotted home at close range. Town seemed to have more possession as the half progressed and were rewarded when a Brad Flanagan corner was headed in by Adam Denny just before the end of the half. Town definitely had the better of the second half but just couldn't convert their chances. Stony managed to break onto a lobbed ball and found their second goal, one on one, with Town's keeper in the 72 minute. Town piled up their chances including Tom Willshere coming up from goal for a corner to head tantalisingly close in the closing minutes. Superb performances from the team but let down by some disappointing finishing. The return leg will come at the end of the season and could be the league decider.
1st April- Home League Vs Sharnbrook 6-1 (1-1) - Adam Denny opened Town's account in the second minute after Rob Begley crossed from the bye-line and Denny tapped in from a yard out. Sharnbrook's impressive strikers kept the defence busy and were rewarded when a 30 yard free kick bounced off several players in the box and went in. The half ended that way after a fairly even game. In the second half Sharnbrook were unlucky to concede a penalty just 3 minutes in, due to a hand ball incident. Harwood slotted in his second penalty in as many weeks. Just a minute later Rob Begley chased Tom Willshere's drop kick, headed over the keeper at the edge of the box beating the retreating defenders to cross the line. In the 55th minute, defender Steve Turner, managed to stab a loose ball in from a yard to claim his first goal of the season. After 60 minutes Denny gave way to Adam Holland whose fresh legs up front gave an immediate problem for Sharnbrook. Holland took a brace of well taken goals (65 and 80 mins) to seal an excellent 6-1 win. With an Easter break ahead Town's next game will be at home on the 15th against top of the league Stony Stratford.
25th March - Away League Vs MK Wanderers 1-2 (1-1) - Town made an excellent start when a jinking run from Brad Flanagan, into the Wanderer's box, led to him being taken down for a penalty. Captain, Adam Harwood, slotted home to take the lead at 15 minutes. Town were under pressure with the wind assisted MK Wanderers and their pace down the wings. In the 34th minute Wanderers took it into the Town box and despite Willshere saving, the rebounded ball seemed to bounce curiously past a row of defenders waiting to clear off the line. In the second half, defender Adam Holland moved up front and on 60 minutes made it count from a Town corner by pouncing on a ball that dropped at his feet on the 6 yard line and buried it in the net. Wanderers were down to 10 men and were under pressure for the rest of the game with close shots from Harwood, Hunter and Holland. A tight game, but a well deserved win for Town.
18th March - Home League Vs Pitstone & Ivinghoe 0-0 - Another excellent defensive performance from Buckingham Town managed to keep their 10th league clean sheet. At the other end however Town could not buy a goal! The exceptionally high wind played a part in this but Town had many opportunities to convert from set pieces but failed to capitalise. Town have still dropped the fewest points in the MK League and have not lost. They face a tough run in to the end of the season with the two top clubs still to left to play at home and away.
11th March - Away League Vs New City Saints 0-5 (0-5) - A very lumpy pitch and playing the first half into a strong headwind did nothing to enhance Town's "beautiful game" on their Sunday visit to New City Saints! Both teams got chances but couldn't convert. The second half was a different affair, with Town rarely in their own half. It took to the 15th minute of the second period before the deadlock was broken. Winger Brad Flanagan(60mins) opened the scoring and Rob Begley(62min) added within 2 further minutes. Mario Moscataro (67 mins) put a lobbed cross into the 6 yard box which was heading for the far post and in when a Saints defender inadvertently headed home. Adam Harwood scored the "showboat" goal of the season taking the ball on the edge of the area and on the third "keep up" got the height for a bicycle kick to make it 4-0 (73 mins). In injury time Mario (90mins) got his second of the day pouncing on a spilled ball on the goal line. Given the conditions, 5-0 was a good result.
18th February - Away League Vs Loughton Youth 0-3 (0-1) - Although playing with just 10 men Loughton put up a spirited defence against BTFC. Despite many chances, Town just couldn't finish! It took an injury time goal at the end of the first period to get Town going. A superb cross from the right by Adam Harwood was met on the 6 yard line by Tom Bradley's head finding the net. Town pressed home their advantage in the second half only denied by some impressive saves by the Loughton Keeper. In the 70th minute Harwood again provided the assist from a free kick from 35 yards, which was touched in by James Kennerley's head almost on the goal line. With injury time approaching, substitute Rob Begley met a crossed ball with his head, and the keeper almost had it on the line but it was just over the line, Tom Bradley made sure to finish the game with a three goal win (credited to Rob Begley after dubious goal panel decision).
4th February - Away League Vs Newport Pagnell Youth 1-2 (0-0) - BTFC Youth had the majority of chances thoughout the game but could not stick it away. Newport played well on the counter attack and 7 minutes after the restart broke through from a free kick and neatly chipped keeper Tom Willshere as he closed the attacker down. Town went to three at the back and had to slog their way through a determined Newport defense. James Kennerley came on as a sub and in the 67th minute received a well weighed ball from Tom Bradley and slotted home. Town had a dozen corners and more crosses into the box but James Kennerley eventually put the ball into the box with a minute to go in injury time and Adrian Hastings headed past the Newport keeper. Town deserved the result on weight of chances, but Newport were unlucky not to hold on for a draw.
28th January - Home League Vs Oakley Rangers 0-0 (0-0) - Town maintained their unbeaten run in the league but failed to take maximum points today. Both teams played good flowing football on an excellent Ford Meadow playing surface. Town probably edged Oakley for chances on goal but neither side could break the deadlock. Oakley Rangers were strong on the break but Town couldn't put their numerous chances in the box and from corners and free kicks away. Oakley have managed to play several times in recent weeks but incredibly for Town, it is over 2 months since their last league game and the cobwebs took a while to blow away. Next week they face Newport Pagnell Youth Away and hope to get back to winning ways.
10th December - Home B&B Cup R2 Vs Kennington Athletic 1-2 (1-2) - Both teams came into this game unbeaten in their respective leagues. Rob Begley took the lead for Town on the half hour, pressuring the Kennington keeper into a scuffed clearance and taking through to score. Five minutes later Kennington struck hard from the edge of the area, the ball coming free from the keeper's grasp and the visitors were first to react to draw level. All looked set for a 1-1 half time break when Steve Turner was judged to have tackled from behind on the edge of the area and a penalty was given. Kennington hit hard and low to the right corner to take the lead. Town then put on a strong defensive rally in the second half to keep them in contention. Excellent defensive and Keeping work meant the forwards had a chance of taking the game to extra time with a counter attack. Rob Begley, on a yellow card, made way for Adam Denny who only lasted 5 minutes before having to be replaced suffering a deadleg. Sam Archer came close on the break but it just wasn't happening up front for Town today. Kennington progress to the last 16 and Town face New City Saints away next weekend in the last game before Xmas.
19th November - Home League Vs Newport Pagnell Youth 6-0 (2-0) - Town suffered an early blow with the loss of influential left winger Brad Flanagan after 10 mins with a suspected broken nose. Visitors, Newport Pagnell Youth, applied substantial pressure and defended well until Adam Holland found the net with his head from a corner on 22 minutes. 4 minutes later, Adam Harwood laid off a free kick for Seb Klyen to strike it hard and low from 30 metres for Town's second of the game. In the 50th minute Seb Klyen again struck home with a volleyed dipping shot from the edge of the box. Just 3 mins later Nick Hunter found himself unmarked on the 6 yard line and climbed spectacularly to head in Town's forth. Adam Carr (56 mins) and Tom Bradley (67 mins) both kept their nerve in the box under defensive pressure to secure the 6 - 0 scoreline with a goal a piece. Newport threatened to score on the break a few times but the strength of the Town defence kept their seventh clean sheet in nine games.
12th November - Home League Vs New City Saints 8-0 (2-0) - Buckingham Town started strongly applying pressure to a competent New City team. It took 22 minutes of pounding before Mario Moscataro broke through putting it away from 3 feet. Adam Denny got the first of his hat-trick after 30 minutes from a similar distance. In the second half, Denny got his second before an unfortunate handball gave Town a penalty. Harwood struck it hard into the top corner of the net. Denny got his third meeting a beautifully weighted cross in a move that started in Town's own area. Adam Carr, Simon Hayman and Rob Begley found the net in the closing ten minutes. New City, to their credit, never gave up and came close on several occasions. The score line, perhaps a little harsh on the visitors, but a superb performance from the Town under 17 outfit deserved the win.
29th October - Away League Vs Pitstone & Ivinghoe 0-2 (0-0) - With two weeks since their last game BTFC Youth had to use the first half to brush away the cobwebs. Putting aside the goaless first half, Town moved up a gear for the second with the introduction of Town's top scorer, Rob Begley. Thoughtful play by Simon Hayman created the first opening. Quickly taking a free kick, he caught the Pitstone defence asleep for Rob to run into the box and break the deadlock at 58 minutes. Excellent goalkeeping kept the clean sheet at Buckingham's end and the score respectable at Pitstone's. With 10 minutes to go Begley bagged his second of the day and eight of the season.
15th October - Home League Vs MK Wanderers 2-1 (1-1) - Buckingham Town went behind for the first time this season. A second minute goal from the impressive MK Wanderers striker, Joseph Kahigi put the visitors ahead. This proved to be the test of character that Buckingham needed, but they responded manfully with a 24th minute goal from Seb Klyen pulling the ball down and under control and confidently finding the goal. At the half way point the match was fairly evenly balanced but Town pushed on a little stronger in the second half with an early goal from Rob Begley. Town had several opportunities that went begging notably from Rob Begley and Simon Hayman. Keeper Tom Willshere pulled a match winning save, diving across the goal to palm clear a Wanderers header. This was the strongest opposition Town have faced and performed well to come away with the full points.
8th October - Away LGE CUP Vs Sharnbrook Casuals 0-3 (0-1) - Buckingham Town Youth Team travelled to Sharnbrook for the second meeting of the season, this time for the MK League Cup. Town took the lead with an impressive second minute goal from Adam Denny. He met Brad Flanagan's lofted ball on the penalty spot and struck it past the keeper. Town kept up the pressure until Adam Denny was taken off with a shoulder injury and the initiative appeared to pass to Sharnbrook who fought hard to keep themselves in the game. Town applied the pressure in the second half and the Sharnbrook defence had no respite. Rob Begley headed home to build a comfort buffer in the 59th minute and Adam Carr found the net again 5 minutes later. The second half performance converted an indifferent first half to an emphatic win.
1st October - Home League
Vs Loughton Youth 5-0 (2-0) - Town
remain on top of the league this week with three clean sheets
from their 100% 4 win record. Town got off to a blistering start
and seemed to pepper the Loughton goal denied by an excellent
goalkeeping performance from the visitors. The breakthrough came
from James Kennerley at 21 minutes as he weaved his way into the
box and found the goal. Kennerley provided the assist just before
the end of the half, feeding Simon Hayman who's fiercely struck
shot made it through the keepers hands.
Mario Moscataro and Steve Turner came on for the second half and
the midfield got into their stride. Excellent link up down the
left wing, from Brad Flanagan and Sam Archer, impressed and always
looked threatening. Adam Carr made way for Adam Denny after 55
minutes. 6 minutes later Denny met a Simon Hayman corner to net
his first league goal. Denny used his head twice more (79th and
87th min) to deadly effect. Adam got Town's second hat-trick in
as many weeks. Loughton made several late breaks but were mopped
up by Towns strong defence. The Loughton keeper saved at least
five other sure goals so credit must go to him for keeping the
score respectable.
24th Sept - Away League Vs Oakley Rangers 0-3 (0-0) - Town seemed to start tentatively and took a whole half to get into their stride. Sam Charleston hit the crossbar and Mario looked set to finish the rebounded ball but it went just wide. James Kennerley and Sam Charleston made way for Rob Begley and Adrian Hastings at the halfway point. With the benefit of some revised tactics for the second half, Town played the ball more effectively. Begley broke the deadlock at 60 minutes leaping to meet a cross with his head and dropping it over the keeper. Begley's second saw him meet a perfectly weighted ball on his chest and finishing with a volley. On 78 minutes Harwood stuck a well weighted free kick that Rob Begley attacked with his head and drove it into the bottom corner. Oakley's keeper prevented several other sure goals. Despite the slow start, Town deserved the 3-0 scoreline.
17th Sept - Away League Vs Sharnbrook Casuals 1-4 (0-1) - Town took an early lead after 9 minutes as Klyen was fouled in the box and Hayman slotted away the penalty. Most of the first half was well balanced with close calls at both ends, Denny & Klyen getting through on goal but failed to capitalise. Simon Hayman had an excellent game in the holding midfield role. As did Steven Turner, who covered for injured Tom Willshere in goal and pulled off a spectacular save in the closing minutes of the half to take the 1 goal lead into the break. Town seemed to be applying more pressure in the second half and again came close. Adam Denny took a bad tackle and landed on his shoulder and couldn't continue. Rob Begley replaced him and within minutes received an Adam Harwood free kick from inside the Town half, took one touch just outside the box and found the goal after 65 mins. Captain Harwood's 30 yard free kick found the top corner just 3 minutes later. Sharnbrook immediately struck back on the break making it 1-3. Seb Klyen pushed forward for the last 10 minutes and after coming close on several occasions eventually got Town's forth goal.
10th Sept - Home League Vs Wootton Rangers 1-0 (1-0) - Buckingham Town Under 17s started their 2006-7 season in the Milton Keynes league with a 1 - 0 win over Wootton Rangers at home on Sunday. Adam Carr put Town ahead after 30 minutes with a run into space behind the Wootton defence and struck it on the run on his less favoured left foot. Wootton came close in the second half striking the post but Town applied more pressure, out shooting Wootton, 3 to 1, with several good attempts just failing to find the net. A deserved win and a great start to the season.
6th Sept - Away Friendly Vs Buckingham Athletic U18 0-3 (0-0) - Town held the stronger Athletic off for 65 minutes before conceding to a well taken goal by Dan Booden. Athletic scored twice more in quick succession. Town had their share of chances but couldn't find the net. Overall both teams look set for good seasons in their respective leagues.
31st August - Home Friendly Vs Potterspury Magpies U18 6-1 (0-1) - Buckingham failed to close down the Potterspury offence in the first half which they exploited effectively on several breaks out of midfield. A goal after 30 minutes put Buckingham behind. A few chances for BTFC in front of goal went begging. In the second half an almost complete change of team for BTFC and fresh legs started strongly and Kennerley clawed a goal back within 5 minutes. Goals followed from Archer, Begley, Klyen, Harwood (freekick), and a second for Archer secured the game. Oli Gallagher played well but suffered a nasty knock and had to come off after 15 minutes. Overall a pleasing pre-season friendly and thanks to Potterpury for a sporting encounter.
20th August - Away Friendly Vs Brackley Town U18 - 2-2 (2-0) - First half was a mixed affair with two goals for Brackley coming from penalty box scrambles, but Brackley had more of the possession. Several chances went begging for the Robins. In the second half we stepped up a gear and a long range dipping shot from Seb Klyen put us back in contention. With 5 minutes to go Josh Higgs got a head on a Moscataro cross to make the friendly a diplomatic 2-2.
