My Life
I was born on
23rd May 1981 in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, but lived the first five
years of my life in Barry, a small coastal town just outside Cardiff originally
made famous as the world's largest coal exporting dockyard (by tonnage)
in 1913. With the decline of coal, it became a small seaside resort.
In 1986, I moved to Telford
in Shropshire. Telford is a new town of about 100,000 inhabitants named
after the famous victorian engineer Thomas Telford and is recognised as
the 'Birthplace of Industry' by the World Heritage organisation. It was
here that iron ore was first smelted to make iron giving rise to the industrial
revolution in Britain (and the world for that matter). Telford is now famous
for its Iron Bridge. It was built in 1789 and is the oldest in the world
and spans the Ironbridge Gorge across the river Severn.
Enough of the history
lesson.
