JOHN KNOWLES WEB PAGE OF AUSTRALIAN RAILWAY HISTORY

On it he publishes corrections of his books

QUEENSLAND RAILWAYS STEAM LOCOMOTIVES 1900-1969, DESIGN AND OPERATION

and

MAPLETON TRAMWAY

and of articles in

AUSTRALIAN RAILWAY HISTORY.

The nature of the corrections in the two books is explained with them on their own pages, which can be accessed by clicking on the names above. Details of the books are given on the same pages.

I have submitted corrections to articles in ARH to the editors. The errors corrected in the submissions are numerous. Many are significant. In some cases, there are also significant omissions for the subjects addressed. The editors have not published my submissions with these corrections over long periods, nor made other arrangements to correct the errors and omissions.

An historical journal should ensure that errors are corrected - it is not of much use unless it is accurate. If the editors do not like my way of correcting the articles, they should find other ways of making the corrections. They should also seek to minimise errors in the articles they publish. It is clear from the nature and number of the errors I point out that they do not practise any system of minimising errors.

The right place for these corrections is ARH. I publish them myself only because the editors do not.
