Pilton Open Climbing Sessions
Regulations & Information
All climbers must tie in with a fig 8 knot plus stopper knot
Climbers under 15 years of age must be with someone over 16 who has completed a white card.
Climbers under 13 years of age must be with someone over 18 who has completed a white card.
Climbers under 11 years of age must be with a parent or guardian for the whole session. The adult in question must have completed a white card and therefore be able to belay safely. The person in charge will be able to arrange dates when adults can learn to belay. It is fine if you wish to belay but not climb yourself.
Children must be kept under control at all times.
All participants are trusted to take great care of the climbing equipment and make certain that everything is returned. Needless to say, if equipment becomes depleted due to pilfering, the open sessions will cease to be viable. Climbing involves complete trust. Equipment is colour coded and issued to the user.
For anyone requiring formal instruction, there is a climbing evening-class consisting of eight x two hour sessions during each of the winter terms held at the same wall. Alternatively, if a group of people would like their own session of formal instruction for a half-day or day, one of the qualified club members will be able to arrange this. Training courses for the 'Single Pitch Award' (for instructors) are also available.
Finally, please join the climbing club. Your fee for the open sessions will then be less and a 'healthy' club will help us in the bid for a new Pilton wall.
Costs for climbing are £3 for non-member plus 50p for equipment hire. Member fee is £2 for the evening plus hire cost.
