5. Review of County Championships 2008
a) Long Distance Events
DH asked if it was usual to ask swimmers
where they would like the lap
cards placing. It was agreed that time
keepers would be reminded to ask
swimmers at the officials briefing.
We discussed the possibility of using
Loughborough pool for the Long
distance events. We agreed that this was
impractical.
b) Schedule of Events
We agreed that the order of events worked
well. After discussion we
agreed to recommend the addition of a 'B' Skins final. Heats to
alternate with 'A' final to avoid long
delay between heats. Both finals
to be filled, as usual, if withdrawals occur. The decision regarding
an award for the 'B' final postponed.
c) Qualifying Times
Very little adjustment needed. NS to look at age groups with few
entries.
d) Awards
Award of three age group medals seems
appreciated.
We discussed, at length, a proposal to
ammend the rule concerning who
wins the Age Group medal where a swimmer
placed second or lower beats
the heat time of the winner in a
Championship final. We agreed to
recommend no change to the existing
arrangement by six votes with one
abstention.
We discussed a letter re times acheived in
finals not recorded as Age
Group competition best times. We agreed
that the principles here were
identical to the above proposal. NS
reported that Championship final
times have never been allowed as Age Group
best times. As finals are
Championship only events, we agreed to recommend to Exec that there be
no
change to this rule.
We discussed the age for Junior Champions.
NS to look at trends in ages
of swimmers before a decision is made.
Times acheived in Skins events are not
eligible for records, as these
are not started in the usual way. The
winners name only to be recorded.
e) Gala Organisation\Assessment of
Grantham Pool
We are concerned about the standard of
equipment at the pool. Lane ropes
need repairing, blocks are breaking, AOE
buttons and pads not all
working and many light bulbs not working.
PA speakers did not work for
every gala and there were insufficient chairs. NS to write to Grantham
Pool. SS & DH to arrange meeting if
needed.
Many swimmers had their bags on poolside.
Many spectators were in the gallery by
10am. Agreed that as our booking
was from 10.30am it was the pool staff's resposibility to control this.
Food was good this year. NS reported that
catering staff were excellent
at communicating which made this very easy
to organise. Pool management
do not respond to letters or E mails.
Warm up went well. No problems with new
arrangements.
Recording covered by Matt Jonathan Graham
Yielding & Lyn Hunt.
6. Dates for 2009
Long Distance 14th & 15th February.

As the next Exec was not until July, an Emergency Committee decision to
agree these dates was made to allow NS to
proceed with bookings for 2009.
