MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY 26TH JUNE 2007 AT NORTH KESTEVEN LEISURE CENTRE

1.                  Apologies for absence

2.                  Minutes of the Executive Meeting held on the 1st May 2007.

 

3.                  Matters arising from the minutes

Water polo equipment: mini water polo nets. AB will take to clubs to raise profile if asked.

 

Dave Lord has the trophies.

 

RW requested clarification on the wording in the previous minutes for the process of using the check sheet for county rankings this should read

“if computer generated no need to send claim check form”

“if manual, send check claim form but must send paper copy for all rankings claims”

 

4.                  Correspondence

Correspondence file passed around.

 

5.                  Report of the Hon Fixtures Secretary

DH said that the invitation from the air cadets had been accepted.

 

Inter counties invitation has been received and accepted, DH asked RW to produce a ranking around 21-23 August for the selection process.

 

6.                  Report of the Hon Masters Sec

This year’s entry form for the masters has been sent out.

 

It was agreed at the last meeting for the 19-24 age group to become 18-24 in line with regional and national masters championships. NS requested that the age group records be amended to 18 to bring these in line. NS proposed, SG seconded this will commence from the 27th June 2007.

 

7.                  Report of the Hon RLSS Secretary

Nothing to report.

 


8.                  Report of the Hon Champs and Age Group Secretary

NS said that the 200 fly qualifying times were slightly harder for the younger age group. The IM times had been made a little harder.

 

The middle gala which the 50 free is swum would now have a 50 skins event as the last event of the day, it would be held for the fastest 8 50 freestyle swimmers from the main event, with the slowest in each swim off being eliminated. A boxed medal was suggested.

 

NS requested a slight change to the wording in relation to any swimmer withdrawing from a championship final wording should read, “any swimmer withdrawing from a final forfeits the right to any championship awards for that event”. This was agreed.

 

DH and Ian Wells, by e-mail, asked when the consideration times would be released for next years county championships, as both clubs would have there club champs starting on the 1st July. NS said once she had submitted the times to John Hidle for ratification they would be released to clubs ASAP.

 

9.                  Report of the Hon Treasurer

Grant from Lincs CC

 

Talent Pathway.

JS confirmed that a bid for £3K had been submitted to Lincs CC to match the £3K already promised by Lincs ASA, a positive response was received, this information has been passed on to the EMR ASA, who would assist the county in trying to move the bid further and try and increase the request.

 

Malcolm Mallet requested a grant for his son Adam of £250 towards his hotel and travel cost as he is now on the world development squad. JS suggested £100 as he was only in the UK for 12 weeks. DH said his travel costs were greater than most swimmers and a grant of £250 should be given, all agreed.

 

JS had received a request from J Pembridge, a teacher of water polo at Kings School Grantham, regarding some financial assistance from Lincs ASA for a forthcoming inter county competition. AB said there was some uncertainty about whether this competition would take place. JS said that in the past the County ASA has supported inter county water polo.

 

AB said that water polo was moving slowly with swimmers from Lincoln attending infrequently, numbers varied between 9 and 19. AB said that City School in Lincoln had shown some interest to the extent that they had purchased some mini polo nets, however some of these swimmers had now moved to Yarborough. AB to push for recruits. AB said that Dave Carter of the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership had acquired free training time at Yarborough. It was agreed that Lincs ASA would contribute towards water polo galas if they go ahead.

 

JS said that he had attended a meeting with DH, Josie Grange and Mel Moss regarding the funding of Dave Carter of the Lincolnshire Sports Partnership. He said that he had spoken to some club secretaries who seemed luke warm about Dave’s contribution. Dave is only spending a nominal 16 days per year on swimming related matters. However he is employed by Lincolnshire Sports partnership that employs him on a tasks achieved basis, not an hourly basis. JS said he knew that DH was very keen to keep DC involved with swimming within the county. DH said that DC had visited clubs in the county to assist them with swim21, had got water polo off the ground, synchro had moved forward but because of the lack of coaches this was taking longer than he had hoped, he is also pushing to get diving back into Lincoln. JS said that DC had helped to gain clubs £31000 in grants and suggested that £500-£1000 would be donated by Lincs ASA on a matched fund basis. This was agreed.

 

It was agreed that £500 - £1000 would be donated by Lincs ASA.

 

10.              Report of the Hon Records Officer

RW said that the next rankings would be in time for the inter counties selection. He is currently looking at setting up a short and long course ranking times and would not be accepting 50m converted times.

 

6 or 7 age group record claims received.

 

11.              Report of the Hon Officials Sec

No news on new exam structure but it is only 3 months away. Clubs have been asked to appoint mentors for the officials and advise Brian Johnson of their names. To date only 4 clubs have done this, (LV, CLP, TD and Boston)

 

12.              Report of the Hon Education Sec

Up skilling for tutors, awaiting results of exams, 4 from the county attended.

 

All future courses will be more expensive although regions, counties and clubs will be asked to subsidise.

 

All tutors will be asked to charge more. Regions trying to arrange courses through colleges and subsidises to reduce costs. Derby College already provide this facility.

 

All courses will be in line with adult education qualifications.

 

Level 1 teachers funding available from ASA (£200)

 

13.              Report of the Hon Disability Sec

SG attended the East Midland Disability Forum, where the constitution was discussed.

 

Liaise with clubs – links made with Grantham, Boston and Woodall Sharks. Meeting to be arranged with Deepings. Mansfield holding a disability gala on 1st July, SG unable to attend.

 

14.              Report of the Hon Open Water Sec

The East Midland Region open water championships will take place on the 22nd July.

 

At a recent event at the Alberts Dock, London, Lincolnshire swimmers did not attend.

 

East Midland Region website has information on open water swimming and events.

 

Indoor open water event taking place at Nottingham’s Victoria Pool.

 

 

15.              Report of the Hon Water Polo Sec

At the recent Youth and Senior championship, 4 Lincolnshire swimmers took part.

 

Numbers attending Yarborough range from between 9 – 19. Yarborough pool is still currently free.

 

Horncastle Otters, Branston and the Priory showing interest in the sport. However there are no planned competitions.

 

Nominations for the county water polo trophy being sought.

 

16.              Report from the East Midlands Region

Regional consultation evening will take place at the Meeting Venue Grantham, commencing 6.30om for Lincs, Leicester and Northants. (2 representatives per club)

 

DH said that an 800 and 1500 time trial would take place at Loughborough on the 11th May 2008.

 

DH said that Bruce Kelsey of LV was willing to stand as county development officer if the county wanted an officer – all agreed to this proposal.

 

17.              Talent Pathway Update

DH said that this was moving along at a steady pace with agreement from the coaches who had attended the pathway meeting.

 

The next meeting would be held at the Meres, Grantham on Thursday 28th June, with club chairman’s also being invited. DH had not received any apologies to date, so assumed that all would be in attendance.
