Hawkshead. Set high in the heart of the English Lake District lies Coniston Water, 'long streaked' in a beautiful wooded fertile vale; with an abundance of wildlife such as red squirrels and wild deer. To the north tower the majestic Coniston fells. Underneath the highest, Coniston Old Man, amongst cascading mountain streams, sits Coniston Village. The area abounds with spectacular waterfalls and outlying tarns including the famous Tarn Hows. |

| Kendal. Surrounded by the splendour of Cumbria's hills and mountains, Kendal - the Auld Grey Town - lies peacefully in the valley of the meandering River Kent. The quiet charm of the limestone buildings and the daily activity of a thriving market town disguise an historic past that holds many treasures. The remains of the Norman Castle locate one of the original Roman camps that guarded the route to the Scottish Border, with a superb view over Kendal and beyond. The Castle was the birthplace and childhood home of Katherine Parr, the sixth wife of Henry VIII. |

| Keswick. The town of Keswick is bordered on three sides by high mountains, while the fourth opens onto the island-studded Derwentwater, beyond which are the Jaws of Borrowdale and, more distant, Scafell Pike. The town's centrepiece is the church-like Moot Hall with a one-handed clock on its tower, below which is the Tourist Information Centre. Greta Hall, built in 1800, is the former home of both Samuel Taylor Coleridge and poet laureate Robert Southey. |

| Windermere &
Bowness. The arrival of the railway in 1847 turned the tiny hamlet of Birthwaite into a thriving tourist centre with a wide selection of shops, restaurants and accommodation - it was named Windermere, after the Lake of course ! Bowness, whilst retaining all the interesting features of the original fishing village and the elegance of the Victorian age, has also responded to the needs of it's visitors with an excellent range of restaurants, accommodation and recreational facilities. |
