Introduction

I was born in Bristol in 1945, and started writing poetry at boarding school when I was thirteen. I moved to Scotland in 1973, and my home has been in Edinburgh since 1976.

In 1976 I won the 1st prize in the unpublished section of the Scottish Association of Writers' Circles competition, with "Birth", and in 1986 I won 1st prize in the Edinburgh Spring Fling Poetry Competiton with "Earth's Plea" (both appear in Telling Gestures.)
