The
Club President of Hamilton Speakers Club for
the 2009/10 season, is Mrs Kate McGuigan. Kate
was among one of the first ladies to join the
Club in October 1999 not long after the Club
became open to ladies the previous year. She has
always been an active member and served on the
committee on a number of occasions since then.
She also takes an active part in the publication
of her local church magazine.

The
Vice President for this
season is Mr Alex Maxwell. Alex has been with the
Club since 1976 and was President in 1993/94. He
is a retired Area Sales Manager and takes an
active part in giving presentations in support of
the charity CHAS which is Childrens Hospice Assoc
Scotland. The charity is run for the benifit of
families of children who have a life limiting
condition.

The
Club Secretary Our
Secretary for this season is Miss Marjory
Kirkwood. Marjory's late father, James Kirkwood,
was a founder member of the Hamilton Speakers
Club when it was known as the Hamilton Toast
Masters. Apart from being a Founder Member he was
President during 1953/54. Marjory followed in her
father's footsteps and became President of the
Club during 2005/06. Marjory is a retired
lecturer in health education. She enjoys reading
good books, caravanning, and is a keen gardener.
She says she also likes a day out at the races, a
game of Bridge and wining and dining in the
company of convivial friends. She is an able
debater and her speeches are often challenging
and thought provoking

Educational
Vice President for our
new season is Scott Caldow. His task within the
Club is to prepare the speaking programme each
month and advise on the development and progress
of the members. Scott is a keen Dinghy sailor,
swimmer and caravaner. He has held a number of
positions on the Committee over the years and was
President in 1994/95. he was invited to become an
Honorary Member in September 2005.

Club
Treasurer. Tom Carson is
the Club Treasurer, a task he took on after he
had completed his year as Imediate Past President
in 2007/08. Tom is a keen sailor and aviator.

Minute
Secretary this year is
Rita Little. Rita is a retired nurse, she is a
founder member of the Larkhall Writers Group and
Treasurer of the Heiton Writers Group. Rita is a
keen bowler and this year is the Lady President
of the Raploch Bowling Club in Larkhall. Her
other hobbies when she has time to fit them in
are Amature Photography and walking. Rita has a
great sense of humour which she uses to great
effect in her speeches.

Jim
Ralton is the Sergeant
at Arms for the club. Jim is a an electrical
engineer and among his many interests he is a
member of the writers group in Larkhall. This
gives him a wealth of stories which he uses to
great effect in his speeches at the Club.

Sam
Waugh is the Club's
Scrutineer again this season. Sam has been an
active member of the Club and in the Association
of Speakers Clubs for many years. He has been
Club President twice once in 1984/85 and in
2001/02. He was invited to become an Honorary
Member for services too the Club in 2003. Sam was
a Fire Officer before retiring and is a keen
bowler and enjoys travelling.

David
Davidson is the Club's
publicity officer. His reports on the Club's
evening activities are submitted to the Hamilton
Advertiser each week. David has also been
President of the Club twice and like Sam is an
Honorary Member. He has been a tireless worker
for the Club for many years..

Our
Immediate Past President
Colin
Jones is the Club's Immediate Past President for
our new season which begins on the last Thursday
in September 2009. He held the position of
Educational Vice President for a number of years
before becomming President for the second time in
2008/09. Colin is a Technical Sales Engineer, he
is a keen golfer, swimmer and speaker.
