A fine and highly unusual gilded silver posy holder, late 19th Century French, complete with its own case. The cup contains 4 claws which grip the posy. An ingenious mechanism extends and opens the claws to accept the posy (see image above) before they are retracted, whilst closing and gripping the posy.
The fluted ivory handle has a longitudinal split which has been glued and the case is somewhat worn, otherwise in excellent condition.
