FROM THE BAND MINUTES
Jan. 26th. '44 - The committee decided on arranging concerts and dances on behalf of the band. It was decided to appoint trustees. 1st. May'46 - With the ex-bandsmen coming back from the forces we are into a fine band. We hope to have a meeting soon and elect a new committee with the help of these interested chaps. 13th. Oct.'48 - It was proposed that the charges (for engagements) should be raised from £2-10-0 to £3-0-0 2nd. Nov.'50 - It was agreed to ask Mr. Richards his opinion on our progress since he first undertook the tuition of the band, and as to whether he thought we had improved sufficiently to play carols at Christmas. 8th. Aug.'51 - The band considered the purchase of another BBb bass and that this instrument could be bought on hire purchase terms, the terms being £13-15-0 and eighteen monthly payments of £2-13-5. 15th. Aug.'51 - It was also decided that the band should play a hymn outside the Boscaswell Inn after the concert, to show appreciation for the splendid effort that had been made in raising the money for the new drum. 10th. Oct.'51 - It was agreed to hold a dance at the Ambulance Hall on the 3rd. November and engage the Creamona Dance Band. Price of admission 2/- Sept. 22nd.'52 - The question regarding the legal aspect of collecting donations was raised and the secretary said he would consult the police. 26th. Jan.'53 - Uniform No. 592 should be considered, owing to the quality of the material offered at the price of £7-15-0 (15 agreed), and it was decided by this vote that this should be the uniform the band would order. 11th. Jan.'56 - Mr. Trenoweth said with the £35 from the carnival the band funds were something like £45. 20th. May'57 - Talent contest, followed by a dance in the Women's Institute. Price of admission 1/6d, children half price. All agreed. 20th. May'59 - The Chairman said that the band should be grateful to the local people for the support they received from them and that a report be sent to the local press showing the progress of the band during the past year and that the band had purchased their own bandroom. 30th. Sept.'64 - Mr. Chainey thanked everyone for their kindness and said that although he had been in Pendeen only a fortnight, he and his wife, felt ten years younger. 28th. June'66 - The ladies then decided that for this night the following should be ordered from Mr.Butters:- 8 doz. splits, 24 doz. meat pasties, 6 doz. sausage rolls, 12 doz. fancy cakes, 2 - 4 lb. saffron cakes, 2 - 4 lb. madiera cakes, 2 - 4 lb. cherry and walnut cakes, 4 lbs. of tea, 2 - lbs. of butter, 4 - lbs. of sugar, 2 - galls. of milk. 15th. Feb.'68 - Mr. Rule said the band should practice at least twice a week. Mr. Rule said Thursdays and Sunday mornings would suit him, but he would have to find out what time he could get a train or bus back to Camborne after the Sunday morning practice. 21st. July'70 (Band Week) - It was decided to do a tour of the village with the band and also visiting the public houses. 4th. Dec.'72 - Conversion of 39 instruments to low pitch - £145 - The extra cost of repairs had been confirmed by phone and had been agreed on by committee members working at Geevor Mines Ltd. 12th. Jan.'81 - It was decided to ask '?' and '?' if they intended to carry on as playing members of Pendeen Band and if not, would they please return their uniforms!!
