What is my Challenge?

Challengers chose their own route, so to a degree they can make it relatively easy (if walking coast-to-coast across Scotland can be easy…) or more difficult.  I’ve put together a ‘classic’ route, using tracks and drovers’ routes through glens and mountain passes, with some high-level transits if the weather allows.  Given the state of my knees, completing rather than competing is my personal challenge.

I will attempt the Challenge solo and self-supported, starting on 9 May from the Atlantic in Mallaig.  I’ll make my way across the Knoydart peninsula to Fort Augustus, then to Kingussie and through the Cairngorm Mountains to Braemar.  From there, possibly via Lochnagar, I will trek eastwards along Glen Esk until I eventually hit the North Sea at St Cyrus, just north of Montrose, by 22 May 08.

At roughly 290km long and with 8,200m of ascent (Everest is 8,848m above sea level), my Challenge could be quite an interesting stroll...
