WINDSOR RIDE OUT FEB 6th 00
I spent all day on the Saturday trying to get one or other of my Lammies to start. (Thanks Del) Due to an unreliable postal system (no, it wasn’t designed by Innocenti) and a bloody unreliable T.V. engine (which was) By Saturday night all was lost. Or so I thought. I returned a call from Doug, and was told I could borrow Shelley’s Vespa. I was well chuffed, and looking forward to riding a Vespa for a change (thanks Shelley), I was aware there would be some gentle ribbing as I rode to the Horse & Barge. It is only to be expected, considering the amount of time I spend extolling the Lambretta. I was impressed with the performance and smoothness of the Vespa engine (though not quite as impressed when I found it was a 200) arriving at the pub, a ribbing is what I got. It was NOT gentle.
As we assembled to leave I noticed that as usual on our ride outs, there were some lovely machines. Particularly the matt black Vespas. We were on our way, again in good numbers. I quickly got used to the new fangled indicator things, and soon we arrived at Windsor. We parked in a row outside the MAIN gate to Windsor Castle. This was a great idea, as soon coppers, beefeaters etc were looking decidedly nervous. It also looked bloody excellent! So much so, that soon, virtually every tourist in town (and there were a lot) was taking pictures of us. At about this time, Ashley cemented his nickname by dropping his scooter on to Shelley’s. Not much damage was done though, and soon we were off to the Donkey House. It was shut (familiar?) Unperturbed we found another hostelry nearby called the Fort & Firkin. Here we ate, rank and had a cracking game of table football.
Soon, it was time to go and we had a largely uneventful journey home. Apart from Richard having carb trouble (have you sorted out that jetting yet?) On the whole, for me, Camden was better. However, the half an hour outside Windsor Castle will take some beating on future ride outs.
