We are Karin, Dave and Emily and we live in a small village in South Northamptonshire. We also
share our home with a lot of animals. Dave's mother
lives next door (fondly known as the daft old bat) and we all get along pretty
well.
Karin and Dave have been married for over 25 years (though Karin doesn't wear a
wedding ring), either because we are very tolerant people or too lazy to get
divorced!
Dave works for the Probation Service, is also a very
good carpenter and likes to spend a lot of time at his allotment.
He is also the Parish Path Warden and takes the dog for long tramps across the
countryside.
Karin is a trained Primary School Teacher, though the educational establishment have never offered her a job. Instead she
spends her time in the greenhouse, helping out at the village shop/post office,
cross stitching and doing complicated things on
the computer. She is also Chair of the Village Hall Committee and a Parish Councillor.
Emily is 17 years old, spends a lot of time looking
after all our animals. In between all that she finds time to attend college
full time, studying Animal Care, where she has successfully gained her First
Diploma and is now working towards the National Diploma. She has always had an
affinity with creatures of all shapes and sizes, even as young as two she would
spend hours watching ants and woodlice. Any animals that need a home (how some
of our pets arrived) or looking after (such as the Long Eared Bat) before being
returned to the wild always seem to end up with her!
We ran a wholefood shop for a while, until the
supermarkets took over the market and forced us out of business (we are still
paying for that), and became vegetarians. We
do now eat meat occasionally (except Emily), but mostly stick to vegetarian
food. Emily decided for herself when she was 8 to become a vegetarian (possibly
due to school dinners) and has been so ever since. It's an individual choice.

In the past we have been very active in various campaigning organisations
- so much so that Emily's first words were 'Maggie Out'. We still support these
of course, but now we tend to the 'think globally, act locally' way of
going about things - we are also getting older and lazier!
So, acting locally we are involved in village life and local issues, such as
rural transport, keeping the village shop and post office going, supporting local businesses and
maintaining the village hall. Karin produces the village newsletter every
couple of months and Dave plants trees every so often. We also ran the youth
club for 4 years, which is still going, though we are no longer helping with
the club we are still very much involved with the youth of the village.
We were also very active in the stop the M40 campaign, realising
the impact it would have on the countryside and villages for miles around. The
M40 got built but only now are others finally waking up to how it has changed
(and continuinig to change) the environment.
You would've thought it was logical to support the Countryside Rally, as we so
obviously support the country way of life, however it was apparent to us that
it had been high jacked by the pro-hunt lobby. We have observed the hunting
fraternity at close quarters many times and they just seem to reinforce the
rather negative view we have of them as you can see in our fox
page.
Well enjoy our pages. Feel free to
e-mail us about anything or just to say hi!
