| All the information for the following Family Tree is stored as a wordprocessor document rather than in a dedicated genealogical computer program. The layout shown below only contains the basic information available in an attempt to present an uncluttered display. The layout in the original wordprocessor file contains all the available information together with details of original sources and descriptions of families and events. With this type of layout it is possible to have all the available information presented in an easily accessible and digestible form. A sample of a section of the detailed presentation can be found at the end of the tree. |

| | Nailmaker
|
The family lived in Ashton for about the first 10 years of the
marriage and then moved to Orrell where Margaret, the youngest child, was born.
Martha died at the age of 34 from Rheumatic Fever. Henry continued to live with
his 4 children at Crabtree Lane in Orrell.
Peter, the eldest child married 8 years later and we find that he, his
wife Ann and baby James were living with Henry and his two daughters at Sandy
Lane in Upholland, presumably to look after the family.
Henry's occupation was Nailmaker. Nailmaking was a cottage
industry in which many members of the family helped. It was, however, very
poorly paid, the nailmakers being exploited by the middle men who supplied the
materials. Henry died 17 years after Martha at the age of 56 from acute
Dyspepsia and Bronchitis. The nailmaking business was continued by his son
Peter.
