Eleanor Hannah Higginbottom was born in Low Willington, Co. Durham on 19th November 1876 and died in Redcar, Yorkshire on 5th May 1947. She preferred to be called Ellen and her tombstone in Redcar cemetery shows her name as Ellen A.

She was the daughter of John Higginbottom and Sarah Ann Thompson.

She married Joseph Johnson on 27 July 1899 at Low Willington and was the mother of Elsie Johnson and grandmother of Keith Drinnan Mahan.

A Clara Charlotte Thompson signed as a witness at the wedding.
