Krystonite Line

It was time that I replaced the line on my 6010GT's so I had a look around the local tackle shop and finally settled on the relatively new "Krystonite" from Kryston, this is a fluorocarbon coated co-polymer. What I liked about this line was its feel and limpness, it was very impressive and for a 12 lb line was far finer in diameter than the line that I was replacing.

Where I fish you could say that it is very easy on fishing tackle so I had a bit of a shock when I was retrieving line and letting it slide through my fingers. What I felt was small rough patches that when I held the line up to the bright sky could be seen. The line was less than 2 months old and had not seen very much fishing, and what could have caused the damage I can't imagine. I have had a good look at the ring linings on both rods, but I could not find anything wrong.

I have stripped off about thirty or forty metre's from both spools, and I will keep my eyes on them to see if and when the damage occurs again.

I was getting ready to pack up on 01-10-2004 and the sun was in front of me and slightly to the right and when I was standing to the left of the rods and looking at where the line entered the water I was surprised to see how the line behaved, bearing in mind that this particular line should be just about invisible when in water, due to its fluorocarbon coating. Where the sun was catching it under water it shone like a thin highly polished strand of stainless steel wire, and as I moved my position slightly I could see the flash on the line leap down through the water. Any fish coming on this line with the sun reflecting from it would I am sure be startled and make a hasty exit.

26-09-2005. I had stopped using this line some time ago, but thought that as I always saw good reviews of it on the web, I should give it another go. I loaded up two reels with it and fished several sessions with it, but I had exactly the same results as before. The line does rough up very easily and it also has a high viability in the water when there is sunlight involved. I am probably in a big minority as far as the merits of this line is concerned, but it is not for me.
