Wychwood 4 Piece 13 Ft Specimen Rod
20-08-2005. I have had this rod for some time now and I use it for all of my float fishing whether I am looking for the silver fish or whether I am targeting carp. The test curve of the rod is one pound, so its perfect breaking strain line would be 5 pounds. I use 6 pound line when targeting carp and 4 pound when fishing for the silver fish with a suitably reduced hook length.
The rod is in four pieces which is handy as I carry it in a rod tube which fits inside the larger of the outside zip up compartments of the quiver and with the protection of the tube the rod remains safe and sound. It has a nice screw up reel fitting which is far superior to those old fashioned sliding aluminium rings of yesteryear which were always coming loose when playing a fish.
I can sit and hold this rod for hours without becoming tired as it is both light and well balanced. I have also pressed the rod into doing some light ledgering at times.
How has it performed, well I have caught 2 inch rudd right up to 15 pound carp, so for me it is an ideal everyday float fishing rod and there is nothing that I do not like about it.
2005. This rod has excelled itself in the last year. It managed to land a 19 pound 14 ounce carp using 8 pound reel line and a 6 pound hook length. Some rod you would have to agree.
