"Advising" and Follow UpCaring for those who have come to faith in Christ through a mission is a great responsibilty which "Spearhead" takes very seriously. Helping individuals to come to an assurance of their salvation is a necessary step, and therefore training is given in this area. The follow-up of the opportunities presented through the mission is also of great importance as is the after-care of the churches involved in the mission and their ongoing work in the community.
Formerly known as "Counselling", it is vital that those who have been challenged through the gospel presentation are given the spiritual help they deserve. This is done efficiently yet sensitively through trained local advisers. "Spearhead" offers the training under Rev.Geoffrey Jones, who has many years experience in the pastoral ministry and is now a member of the team and executive member of the Keith Wills Evangelism Trust.
Follow-up of
individuals is essential after they have responded to Christ.
They are "babes in Christ" and need nurture and
personal help as well as integrating into a local fellowship.
The follow-up strategy and programme are agreed on and prepared beforehand by the local action group steering the mission, and each church is advised about courses available. "Spearhead" insists that follow-up courses are run, and the dates pre-arranged for:
Children eg. "Topz"
Youth eg. "Get God". "Youth Alpha"
Adults eg. "Alpha"
Follow-up of the
Mission
As soon after the mission as possible the "Spearhead" leaders meet with the local action group, who helped to steer the mission, in order to see the strengths and weaknesses of the mission and to determine the areas the mission has highlighted for future ministry by the local churches and possibly the team. We continue to keep in close touch so we can pray and lend further support where needed.
Follow-up of
Churches
Each church will experience help through the mission and will have a new sense of purpose and direction. They will also have new opportunities as well as a new network of people to contact through those newly coming to faith in Christ. Spearhead wants to encourage the churches in this ongoing ministry.
Follow-up of
opportunities
The team is committed to helping churches individually and in partnership to make the most of the opportunities for the future that open up through the mission. Whether it is suggesting ways of filfilling the challenge, or recommending specialists to help, or returning to meet them as a team, we see it as important to continue the work God has begun.
