Welcome, my name is Ken Knowles, I breed a few of the Old Breeds of Canaries like Lancashire Coppys, Crest & CrestBred, Belgians & Scotch Fancies.

I belong to the O.V.C.A. (Old Variety Canary Association). I first started to breed Canaries in 1993, they where birds that I got from the Pet Shop to pratice, as it where.

Then I saw an advert for Lancashire Canaries that had been bred locally, I aquired a pair from the breeder who told me that I should show the young birds at a local show.
I did just that, and I'm still showing them with a bit of success.

This is the Crest Canary, one of the first breeds that I started with. I had no success at first, the hens would not feed the eggs, it was clear that they ware dead in the shell and the hens stopped sitting around the ten'th day.

The Lancashire Canary was the first of the Old varieties that I had. These birds are not difficult to keep though I have not had lots of success with them, I did win Best Novice Lancashire at the Old Variety Canary Association Club show at Shardlo in 1995 and 1996.

The Belgian and Scotch Canaries where the next birds that I kept and I managed to obtain my first belgians from the Secretary of the Belgian Club, unfortunatly, the club has now closed.

I am a member of the following Clubs.
