Euwe v Lasker 1934

One of my favourite games of all time, Lasker came out of retirement to play this tournament as he needed the money after having to fleed from Germany after the rise of the Nazis.

No one gave him much of a chance to defeat Euwe who was at that time one of the hottest players on the planet - indeed he went on to win the World Championship a couple of years later.

If you do not know this game - beg steal or borrow a set of annotations, the game has appeared in a few anthologies over the years but I am afraid I can't put them on the Internet because of copyright.

The image will just keep repeating and repeating - nice to copy and paste onto your desktop if you like the game.

Note the fabulous queen sacrifice that Lasker finds (well he had to it is forced) in this game.  Truly wonderful chess and highly instructive.
