Why a counsellor?

No matter who we are or what our background, we all need someone to talk to at times. Speaking with family & friends can help however sometimes it is easier to talk & explore with a person who is not directly or emotionally involved with our particular situation.

You may find yourself unable to discuss in full, issues of a sensitive nature with those close to you.

You might also have reached a point where you feel that another kind of support and/or help may be useful.

As a Counsellor I will not be able to offer you advice or easy solutions, but I will help you explore your feelings & find your own unique answers.

How long will it last?

The 1st time you come to see me it is best to allow 60 - 90 minutes. During this time we will discuss your situation and, if you would like to continue seeing me, mutually agree a contract to work to. The contract will include things such as:

How we work i.e., in either a fixed-term or open-ended way. Some people will come for a few months whilst others may come for a much longer time

 The fee payable

 Expectations

 Appointment dates/times

All subsequent sessions will last for 50 minutes.

How confidential is it?

All that you tell me is confidential*.

I will not discuss anything said within a session with other people and/or organisations without your prior knowledge and consent.

When working with young people and or children, the degree of confidentiality will depend on the clients "capacity to give consent to receiving any service independently of someone with parental responsibilities" (BACP Good practice Framework, 2002, Pg. 12:16.)

*Please note that I am bound to act within the law and I adhere to the B.A.C.P. code of ethics.
