General
Information;
General
Teaching Council Registration: (GTC) 0870 0010308
All
teachers working in maintained Primary, Special and Secondary schools,
non-maintained Special schools and pupil referral units are required
to register with the General Teaching Council (GTC) for England, unless
they are exempt from the requirement to hold Qualified Teacher Status
(QTS). Exemptions will include:
-
Trainee
teachers undertaking teacher practice
-
Teachers
working towards QTS through an employment based
programme
-
Teachers
trained overseas (outside the European Union). These teachers can
work in temporary teaching posts for up to 4 years without the requirement
to hold QTS.
-
Unqualified
teachers (eg instructors), where the school has been unable to find
a qualified teacher with the necessary skills and expertise.
Newly
Qualified Teachers: (NQT's)
All
newly qualified teachers need to complete their induction programme
with support and guidance. As a supply teacher, you are able to do
this as follows:
-
Work
in one placement for a Term or longer with the school accessing
the Standards Fund.
-
Three
placements, one in each term across the academic year.
-
Four
terms of casual day to day supply, with a permanent position by
the fifth term.
-
With
Term Time Teachers, you will also have free access to all Training
Courses that we provide.
Work Permits:
-
EU
teachers no longer require a work permit for the UK.
-
Commonwealth
citizens ages 17-27 can reside in the UK for a period of 2 years
as working holidaymakers. This entitles the person to find part-time
or casual work, or work full-time on a casual basis for no more
than 50% of their designated stay in the UK, with a maximum of 25
hours per week.
For other visas, Term Time recommend assistance is sought from the
Immigration Service.
