Our Hints & Tips consist of:
  • Always introduce yourself to the administration staff of the school on arrival, and then on departure ensure timesheet is signed.
  • Ask what "Discipline Procedures" the school operates; and who to contact in an emergency.
  • Find out where the toilets and staff-room are.
  • Ask where to locate the photocopier and other necessary supplies.
  • Ask when Fire Alarm test days are and where the assembly points are.
  • Ask how do lunch/break times operate.
  • Ask will you be required to do a playground/lunchtime duty.
  • Liaise with the year group co-ordinator/manager.
  • During teaching time, if you need to leave the classroom for any reason, send a responsible pupil to collect another teacher/adult to cover.
  • Complete the "How the day went" form at the end of the day for the classroom teacher, to let him/her know what you covered, a brief note on the children etc.
  • Leave the classroom as you would expect and hope to find it.
  • Have an emergency bag ready at all times of lesson fillers, games, fun things etc.
  • Operate a good behaviour/work reward system immediately, this will give you control and help to settle the children if needed.
Remember you are there to save the day.
The school and children are grateful for your expertise and experience, so enjoy your time there.
