Always
introduce yourself to the administration staff of the school on
arrival, and then on departure ensure timesheet is signed.

Ask
what "Discipline Procedures" the school operates; and
who to contact in an emergency.

Find
out where the toilets and staff-room are.

Ask
where to locate the photocopier and other necessary supplies.

Ask
when Fire Alarm test days are and where the assembly points are.

Ask
how do lunch/break times operate.

Ask
will you be required to do a playground/lunchtime duty.

Liaise
with the year group co-ordinator/manager.

During
teaching time, if you need to leave the classroom for any reason,
send a responsible pupil to collect another teacher/adult to cover.

Complete
the "How the day went" form at the end of the day for
the classroom teacher, to let him/her know what you covered, a brief
note on the children etc.

Leave
the classroom as you would expect and hope to find it.

Have
an emergency bag ready at all times of lesson fillers, games, fun
things etc.

Operate
a good behaviour/work reward system immediately, this will give
you control and help to settle the children if needed.
