VIDAL SASSOON
30-week Beginners Diploma Course The
course offers complete learning of hairdressing divided into 5 stages through work sessions, assessment and interview. The course is designed to take an absolute beginner to an all-round hairdresser. The tools are provided by the school. In 2008 the course is also available in 45 weeks format, divided into 8 phases.

Curriculum

STAGE 1 (weeks 1-5) Students devote their first few weeks to:

Perfecting shampooing, blow-drying, finishing of products
Learning styling techniques that include setting
Understanding of head shape and born structure.
Learning how to conduct a full client consultation
Exploring the intricacies of client care

Basic precision cutting skills are quickly introduced and include:

One length hair cuts
Classic bob techniques
Basic layering

Students are guided and monitored throughout their work sessions. At the end of each stage students are given a one to one appraisal.

STAGE 2 (weeks 6-10) In this stage students are introduced to the science of hair and given time to perfect the basics of cutting hair the Vidal Sassoon way before moving on to more advanced technique.

STAGE 3 (weeks 11-15) Students will learn men's basic haircutting and the difference between ladies and men's work. The fundamentals of colour will be introduced in this stage together with the basics of perming and highlighting.

Classic men's cutting techniques
Scissors over comb techniques and using clippers as a finishing technique
Graduated men's technique
Further dressing hair techniques

STAGE 4 (weeks 16-20) Students will now start to concentrate on colouring, highlighting and perming techniques with hands on work sessions being the primary focus.

Highlighting and foil work
Basic perm techniques
Classic tint applications
Freehand tinting
Contemporary colouring techniques
Tinting & perming exam

STAGE 5 (weeks 21-25) Students will now be given the opportunity to specifically concentrate on all aspects of ladies haircutting, emphasis being placed on all the skills learned. This stage will include a mock exam to determine strengths and weaknesses.

STAGE 6 (weeks 26-30) The last five weeks are designed to give students the coaching and time to perfect the skills they have learned. A cutting exam is given in the last week and students are marked on their performance.
